Event Date: July 29, 2026
Status: Past Event
NTRH has concluded a three-day induction exercise for 77 healthcare interns recently posted by the Ministry of Health, officially marking the beginning of a year-long internship designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and independent professional practice. The interns—comprising 10 Medical Officer Interns, 3 Pharmacy Interns, 28 Clinical Officer Interns and 36 Nursing Officer Interns—will spend the next 12 months undertaking structured clinical rotations under the guidance of experienced consultants and multidisciplinary teams. Their training will also include rural placements to broaden their understanding of community health and the realities of healthcare delivery across diverse settings. As an accredited internship training centre, NTRH continues to play a vital role in mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals, ensuring they acquire not only clinical competence but also the professional values required to deliver safe, ethical and patient-centred care. Throughout the induction, departmental heads and consultants oriented the interns on the hospital's internship policy, scope of training, standard operating procedures (SOPs), communication, teamwork, professionalism, confidentiality, integrity and ethical practice. The sessions also emphasized prudent use of medical resources, interdisciplinary collaboration and cultivating a culture of curiosity and continuous learning. The induction also exposed the interns to emerging healthcare challenges, including antimicrobial resistance (AMR), the growing threat posed by multidrug-resistant organisms, and the importance of antimicrobial stewardship in safeguarding the effectiveness of existing medicines. They were further introduced to the hospital's ongoing digital transformation in health information management, aligned with the country's broader agenda to strengthen healthcare systems through technology. Congratulations to the Class of 2026 interns! We wish them a fulfilling year of learning, service and professional growth at NTRH
